What Sets J Mark Clarifiers Apart?

Slant plate clarifiers are a type of wastewater treatment system that uses gravity to separate solids from water. The wastewater that enters a clarifier typically contains corrosive materials that affect the interior and exterior of the clarifier.  As wastewater flows through clarifiers, particles such as nitrogen, sulfates, phosphates, and chlorides can wreak havoc on the system.

However, when constructed of the right materials, a clarifier can last for many years.

In today’s blog, we will explore some of the steps that J Mark takes to ensure that each slant plate clarifier is built to last.

Each clarifier comes with a Tnemec coating

Most clarifiers at J Mark are made of steel.  To ensure that these tanks can last for the longest amount of time possible, each clarifier is coated with a Tnemec coating, the absolute best corrosion protection system on the market.  Tnemec has been in business for over 100 years, continuously investing in innovation to solve some of the toughest challenges in the wastewater industry.

As wastewater continuously flows through the clarifier, the Tnemec coating combats corrosive materials, ensuring a longer system lifespan.

Tnemec only uses top-quality resins, pigments, binders, and additives to ensure that the coating on each clarifier stands the test of time.  Tnemec uses ASTM B117, ASTM D 4587, and other testing standards to verify the coating’s resistance to corrosion, UV light, abrasion and other forms of coating deterioration.

Stainless overflow components and hardware

While the clarifier tank/frame uses a Tnemec coating to prevent corrosion, the overflow components and hardware are made from stainless steel

The addition of alloying elements to steel form stainless steel.  These alloying elements form a film that helps to protect and can self-heal when oxygen is introduced to the hardware.  Stainless steel is often referred to as corrosion-resistant steel as it can withstand rust and corrosion better than steel.

Even the smallest components must be made of the highest quality materials, and for that reason, J Mark installs only stainless-steel overflow components and hardware.  With clarifiers being exposed to so many corrosive elements, it is important that every component or piece of hardware can resist degradation.

Fiberglass plate packs

Plate packs are essential to the function of a clarifier.  As the clarified flow rises between the plates, gravity forces the solids down the plates until they settle in the cone section of the clarifier for removal.

Since plate packs are such an integral part of a clarifier, J Mark uses fiberglass to construct all our plate packs.

Fiberglass is known for its longevity, durability, resistance to deterioration, and its ability to withstand extreme temperatures (-40 °F to 350 °F).  In a strength to weight ratio test, fiberglass is shown to be stronger than steel.  Lastly, fiberglass has great chemical resistant qualities making it perfect for use in a clarifier where you are treating corrosive materials.
